A Day in the OR

New Educational and Networking Concept by Swiss-MIS

Facing surgical training and teaching has become a challenge due to the high specialization of modern surgery, patient complexity, and technological advancements. Several training programs have been developed to acquire knowledge and surgical skills. These programs encompass various key elements such as lectures, structured clinical and surgical activities, courses, and masterclasses. While hands-on courses are highly beneficial, they usually require a significant investment of time and resources. Shorter one- or two-day programs, successfully offered by some centers across Europe, the USA, and China, have demonstrated their effectiveness, high satisfaction rates, and networking opportunities, as supported by data published in educational journals.

The Swiss-MIS is launching a new educational project titled "A Day in the OR". This initiative aims to provide a learning experience for young surgeons by allowing them to visit and observe experts in minimally invasive surgery at work. Designed as a more informal and shorter alternative to traditional masterclasses, "A Day in the OR" offers a one-day clinical attachment. Participants will have the chance to learn tips and tricks for a variety of minimally invasive procedures, gaining valuable experience. Additionally, the program fosters networking and mentorship opportunities, connecting participants with expert colleagues dedicated to education and the promotion of young talents.

Participants can spend a day paired with experienced surgeons, starting with a comprehensive briefing and observing surgical procedures. Young surgeons can gain insights into how various surgeries and diseases are addressed by different surgical teams in diverse operating room settings. By fostering this dynamic learning environment, "A Day in the OR" aims to cultivate not only technical skills and knowledge but also networking and the sharing of clinical experience, preparing participants for the complexities of modern surgical practice.

Experts offer many advanced surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic hernia surgeries, complex colorectal surgeries such as hemicolectomy and total mesorectal excision (TME), antireflux and bariatric surgery. Techniques such as TAPP, TEP, eTEP, TARUP, and robotic-assisted procedures are among the specialized approaches provided across different institutions. The Swiss-MIS invites all young surgeons to participate, keeping directly in touch with Swiss-MIS board members and hosting experts. Don't miss this chance; visit the Swiss-MIS website today.
